Based on the book, Love Is Just Around the Corner by Lester Atwell, Flora, the Red Menace is a musical comedy by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by David Thompson.

The original production marked the Broadway debut of Liza Minnelli, who won a Tony Award for her role as Flora Mezaros, a fashion illustrator in Depression-era New York who gets involved with the Communist Party.

It was also Kander and Ebb’s first collaboration. Together, they would later create Cabaret and Chicago, among others.
